Easy, System-Wide Wheelchair AccessEvery PRT vehicle is wheelchair accessible with level-floor boarding. No special lifts are required to enter the PRT vehicle. There is no need for an operator to assist the wheelchair-bound patron boarding the vehicle. 100% of system capacity can be used by wheelchair passengers, whereas large-vehicle systems have a limited number of wheelchair positions - typically two per vehicle. There is no possibility of having to wait an extra 10-20 minutes because the wheelchair positions are already full. The rider simply takes the next car in a constant stream of vehicles - just like every other patron.
Small Stations with Standard LayoutsThe large number and small size of PRT stations easily lends itself to standardized layouts - which are easier to negotiate for the sight-impaired. Instead of having to learn where the entrance, exits, and boarding areas lay for each station, the standard plan will apply to most stations in the system.
No Schedules, No Transfers, No RoutesPRT operates on-demand, non-stop from origin to destination. There are no schedules to read, no transfers to miss. There is no possibility of boarding the wrong vehicle or going in the wrong direction. Every vehicle goes to every station and the system takes care of the routing, not the passenger.
No Missed Stops, No EnunciatorsThere is no need to rely on garbled public address announcements to tell what station you are entering. There is no need to rely upon the vehicle operator to announce stops, or to ask others to watch for your stop. There is no way of missing a stop. When the vehicle stops, it has arrived at it's destination.
Instant Communication with System OperatorsThe attention of the system operators is always available at the touch of a button. Call buttons are located in each vehicle, at the boarding stanchions, and at each stations system map and payment kiosk. All stations are monitored by closed-circuit security systems. |
